Facebook Prepares to Integrate Music

By BLOGGER MAPS  |

Wednesday, August 31  |

Facebook Inc. is preparing changes designed to make the site a hub for listening to music, watching movies and playing videogames, according to people familiar with the matter, in much the same way people already use the social network to share personal media like photos and videos.

Facebook has told media executives in recent days that it will begin letting online music services such as Spotify AB and Rdio Inc. publish user activity on Facebook pages, much like actions such as adding friends or "liking" websites.

The move is part of a larger effort at Facebook to improve the discovery of all types of media content on the site.

If finalized, the changes could be announced at Facebook's f8 developer conference in late September, said a person familiar with the matter.

The Facebook initiative is designed to integrate the social-media giant more closely with services that let users stream free music or an unlimited amount of music for a monthly fee. By contrast, Google Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. recently started "cloud" music services that let users upload their personal music collections to remote servers and listen to them remotely, and Apple Inc. is preparing to start a similar offering.

CNBC reported Wednesday that Facebook was working to create a music platform. In response, Facebook said: "Many of the most popular music services around the world are integrated with Facebook and we're constantly talking to our partners about ways to improve these integrations."

In some cases, music services could create a player that would sit within Facebook, letting users hear music without leaving the site. However, the music itself would still be delivered through the third-party service, which users would be required to log in to before listening. Such players wouldn't be mandatory, these people said, so that if a user wanted to listen to a Facebook friend's Spotify playlist, that person might need to switch applications to hear it.

These people said that the new arrangement wouldn't represent a partnership with any particular music service. In practice, however, Spotify could benefit more from the changes because the music service offers more free music than its competitors. That in turn could mean that Facebook users could sign up for Spotify and listen to friends' playlists without paying.

One of the media executives said Facebook was encouraged to pursue the plan after its success with social games made by companies like Zynga Inc., the maker of FarmVille.

Meanwhile, Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Bros. movie studio in recent months has begun renting movies on Facebook. As with the proposed music offerings, users watch the movies, including "The Dark Knight" and "Yogi Bear," on Facebook, but they are delivered by third parties. Warner Bros. charges 30 to 40 Facebook credits for the rentals, with the site taking a 30% fee - its standard cut of transactions using its proprietary currency. A Facebook credit is worth 10 cents (Source : Wall Street Journal).

By BLOGGER MAPS  |

  |

New introduced two days ago, Google + or called Google Plus has been flooded with a lot of takers. No half-hearted, CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg joined Google Plus. This was reported by Venturebeat.com who saw Mark in Google Plus profile.

Whereas the business Google and Facebook clearly in the opposite position. Even pointed out the relationship the two companies is not so good because of the case black campaign conducted by Facebook some time ago against Google.

That is, he says, Mark profile picture clearly shows he was not happy. Could this be related to the presence of Google Plus? Yet when compared with the profile photo on Facebook Mark gave a wide smile.

Geek.com reported although still in the stage of inviting a few people were deemed worthy to try Google Google Plus project, the number of users of Google Plus has been quite a lot. Surely there will be Sergey Brin and Google CEO Larry Page at Google Plus. Besides the technology and media reporters are considered quite influential and willing to give fair assessment of the project.

However, the possibility that the registered name is a person who claimed to be Mark Zuckerberg-amit can also occur. However, see how many members are there in Circles Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook is the officials, the possibility is small. This means that an existing profile in Google Plus it most likely was Mark Zuckerberg.

Joining Mark Zuckerberg to Google Plus possible to see from the features of what is offered by Google Plus and of course possible to try and compare them to those on Facebook. Many of the initial opinion of those who have had the opportunity to join the Google project said Google Plus Plus is like Facebook (copy cat) with some changes in the use of terms such as Circles to Friend.

Play Facebook Games to Help Japan Quake and Tsunami victims

By BLOGGER MAPS  |

Sunday, March 13  |

Now every time you buy special crops on Farmville, someone in disaster-hit Japan might get much-needed succour. In a unique initiative, eight online games on Facebook are raising funds for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami-hit island nation.

The initiative is a result of partnership between NGO Save the Children and Zynga, a social network game developer.

Games like Cityville and Farmville are raising funds by offering special crops to its players. The players can pay through credit cards and the entire proceeds would go to the Japan Earthquake Tsunami Children's Emergency Fund.

'Currently, we are collecting information, but we think that many children have been affected by in this catastrophe. Our priority is to ensure that children are safe and to address their psychosocial needs,' a Save the Children official said.

A massive earthquake measuring 9 on the Richter scale rocked the island nation Friday and set off huge tsunami waves, some as high as 10 metres, killing over 1,000 people.

The NGO is hoping to reach out to maximum number of victims and expecting generous donations from millions of online players via their favourites games like Zynga Poker, Frontierville, Cafe World, Yoville, Z Bar and World With Your Friends.

'Currently, it is estimated that at least 215,000 people are taking refuge in emergency shelters in the eastern and northern parts of the country. We think that a considerable amount of money is needed for distribution of emergency aid kits, medical aid and for repair of infrastructure,' the official added.

According to Facebook, around 50 million users are playing Farmville every month, almost 40 are hooked on to Zynga Poker, and nearly 20 million indulge in Frontierville and over 10 million users are playing Cityville every month.

Apart from harvesting crops, one can place Japanese inspired decorations in their cafe or purchase access to a VIP table in Zynga Poker.

'It's actually a unique idea. These crops give me extra points which help me increase my level. They don't wither like other crops and most importantly, it feels good to be doing something for the people who are suffering in Japan,' said Uday Vohra, a 20-year-old Farmville addict.

'I will be planting a field full of Daikons as my contribution,' added Vohra.

Avid gamer Akhil Bhatt likes this concept 'where money is raised for a charity in a way that it also benefits the donors'.

'I came to know about it in the morning when I logged on to play Cityville. It's a good way to entice players as they will be moving up in the game while having the satisfaction of donating to a social cause,' opined Bhatt.

Although this is the first time that the NGO is partnering such a unique initiative, Zynga had earlier donated similarly collected proceedings to the World Food Programme, who was distributing food and other relief to thousands in Haiti affected by the devastating earthquake last year.

MySpace Surrenders to Facebook in Battle of Social Networks

By BLOGGER MAPS  |

Thursday, March 10  |

Talking to The Telegraph at the Monaco Media Forum, Jones said the bold statement: “MySpace is a not a social network anymore. It is now a social entertainment destination.”

The troubled site, which saw its UK audience halve to 3.3 million monthly visitors in July earlier this year, is pinning its hopes of renewed success with a return to its music and content roots.

Two weeks ago, the redesigned MySpace, which focuses a lot more around content, rather than social networking, launched in the US and will go live in the UK in mid November. Everything has been changed; right down to the logo – which is now the word 'My' and an extended underscore to represent the ‘Space’.

MySpace, founded in 2003, at its peak had more than 100 million registered and active members, but its audience has been declining since the rise of Facebook in 2008.

It has come under increasing pressure from its parent News Corporation, which bought the site in 2005 for $580 million (£351 million) in 2005, to reverse its ailing fortunes.

On an earnings call at the start of this month, Chase Carey, News Corporation’s chief operating officer, said: "We've been clear that MySpace is a problem. The current losses are not acceptable or sustainable." And that he wanted "a clear path to profitability" on a timetable measured "in quarters, not in years”.

MySpace lost $156 million in the quarter that ended in September 2010 compared to a loss of $126 million in the same period last year, on revenues of $298 million, down 25.5%.

Jones said that Carey’s words were taken out of context, and that all of News Corp’s businesses are assessed quarterly.

“There is no timeline to shutdown MySpace. The goal of relaunching the site is to a build a new path and use the tools of social around entertainment content which will appeal to audiences aged between 13-35 around the world,” Jones explained.

However, when asked what UK-specific content deals had been signed in preparation for the roll out of the newly designed site on this side of the pond, in a couple of weeks, Jones was evasive. “In order for our content strategy to work, we will need localized content strategies, but these have not been initiated yet.” MySpace shut down all of its European offices last year, and made the London-based office its head quarters outside of the US. Critics have said that MySpace is too US-centric, in its provision of content and delivery.

He also admitted that MySpace Music, the site’s free streaming service, which has failed to make a huge impact in the UK, with many people preferring to stream music using sites such as Spotify, could be improved. “I think we can be better at the way people consume music on MySpace. And over the coming months, we will be rolling out new features to improve this.

“MySpace still plays an integral role in the showcasing of music talent and every band still has a page.”

Jones would not be drawn on rumours that MySpace will soon implement a Facebook Connect button across its service, allowing people to use their Facebook identities on MySpace –which would effectively mean promoting what was once their biggest rival across the site.

He also said that he was focusing his energies on retaining the majority of the current 130 million-strong global registered membership as opposed to attracting new audiences. “We have to get the product, which is still in beta, fully right before we go out and hunt new users,” he said.

Jones said new users would be of a younger demographic who want to “meet new and old friends around great content”. The focus of the ‘new MySpace’ in the UK during the launch period of the redesign will be solely on music discovery, with other content focus areas, such as TV and film, to come later. However, the US MySpace revamp launched with movie, TV and celebrity content ‘hubs’ already in place. Jones is hoping higher quality content, will yield good advertising returns.

The revamped site aims to make itself the UK’s “leading social music destination for 13 to 35 year olds”. It will promote influential MySpace users and content curators across the site.

New products include a recommendations feature – which promotes ‘tastemakers’ on every page to help users find new content suited to their tastes; a discovery tab – which is present on every page and shows what content a user’s friends are watching or what is trending across the site, and a new trending feature called ‘Right now on MySpace’ – which informs the recommendation feature.

The redesigned MySpace homepage showcases popular music content as it ‘bubbles up’ across the site in real-time. Additionally, once a user logs into MySpace, the homepage will instantly populate with content based on the individual’s interests.

Jones said he was enjoying the challenge of trying to turn around one of the fastest growing websites in the world and had not been distracted by the walkout of two chiefs executives in the last 10 months. First Owen Van Natta stunned staff with his departure after a mere nine months at the helm of the company in February, and then Jason Hirschorn, one of Van Natta’s replacements, followed suit four months later.

When asked what MySpace would like in 2015, Jones said: “It sounds like a mobile product.” He denied that MySpace was up for sale.

Facebook Makes Alliance With Warner Bros To Stream Rental Movies

By BLOGGER MAPS  |

  |

In its march to become a portal to the emerging world of social, Warner Bros., is the first major Hollywood studio to unveil an application allowing users to rent and watch movies directly on the popular social media network Facebook, starting with "The Dark Knight".

Warner Brothers, the Hollywood movie-maker on Tuesday said it will begin streaming select movies on Facebook, a move that will enable the social media-networking giant to compete in the online movie-rental market, and to experiment whether the social network's 600-plus million users will be willing to pay to stream new movies from within the social networking site's virtual walls.

Warner Brothers will begin the trial with "The Dark Knight," the 2008 Batman movie from Christoper Nolan, and Facebook users will have to dole out 30 Facebook credits (about $3) to watch the movie. To rent the movie, Facebook users in the United States have to visit the movie's Facebook page, and start watching the movie from there.

The studio says that fresh titles will be posted soon and that it was a no-brainer to start offering video streaming rentals through Facebook. Moreover, the rental period lasts for 48 hours--twice the standard from other streaming services -- and users will have full Facebook functionality during the viewing experience, including the ability to post comments, status updates and interact with their friends. The program is only available to consumers in the U.S.

"Facebook has become a daily destination for hundreds of millions of people," said Thomas Gewecke, President of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution. "Making our films available through Facebook is a natural extension of our digital distribution efforts. It gives consumers a simple, convenient way to access and enjoy our films through the world's largest social media network."

The move marks a memorable association between Hollywood and such social networking sites, it is one of the first times that a major media company has used Facebook as a means to directly sell digital media. Although Executives hope it will pave a new way for the entertainment company to make money. But if it proves successful it could roll out to other countries around the world including the UK.

"LIKE" IT? Warner picked "The Dark Knight" as a launch offering because it is so popular, with nearly 3 million registered fans.

Warner Bros was not immediately available for additional comment.

The latest alliance puts Facebook in greater competition with Netflix Inc. and other tech companies competing for positioning in the ever-flourishing online-video-services market. It also comes as movie studios are increasingly testing new methods of distribution for their movies. However, the deal is not exclusive. The movie is also available to rent from Netflix as a DVD, but it cannot be streamed.

Other companies competing to claim their share includes Apple Inc., Google Inc. and Hulu LLC, have also invested in online-video services amid the rise of digital media. Hulu is a joint venture owned by News Corp., Walt Disney Co., Comcast Corp.'s NBCUniversal, Providence Equity Partners and Hulu employees. News Corp. is the owner of Dow Jones, publisher of this newswire.

Nevertheless, Netflix has become a dominant player in home-video rentals, offering unlimited one-at-a-time DVD rentals by mail for $9.99 a month or instantly streamed movies via the Internet for $7.99 a month. The service offers online registration via Facebook.

However, it is pretty obscure from the announcement whether a particular browser is needed or whether the playback requires Flash. Although, it is obvious that Facebook is willing to experiment to find new ways to expand its empire by letting outsiders come inside Facebook's borders. For its part, Facebook says the new movie streaming is not a deal with Warner Brothers -- just that it is a fairly open platform that allows experimentation.

In a statement that may suggest further collaborations, a spokesperson for Facebook told the Telegraph: "Right now, more than 400 games and applications use Facebook Credits to give people a safe way to buy virtual and digital goods on Facebook. We are open to developers and partners that want to experiment using credits in new and interesting ways, and we look forward to seeing what they come up with."

How To Become Super Popular On Twitter

By BLOGGER MAPS  |

  |

Twitter has become one of the most popular ways for Internet marketers to spread their message, but if you don’t know how to harness this powerful tool, it can actually negatively impact your marketing campaign. On the other hand, a well executed Twitter campaign may bolster your profits and reputation on the Internet. Projecting the right the image on Twitter is the first step to successfully marketing your products or services on the world’s most popular microblogging site.

Projecting the right image starts from the moment you sign up for Twitter. You should choose a user name which is quickly identifiable and unique to you. Many people opt to register their first and last name as their Twitter username and then associate that name with a business Twitter account. Remember, you cannot use hyphens in your user name, but you can use underscores.

After registering your account, there’s several simple steps you can take to immediately begin building your Twitter reputation. First, you should change the background of your Twitter feed. Changing the look of your page helps your feed look personalized and gives the impression that a real person is running the page, rather than a spam bot. Depending on the background you use, it can also help “brand” your Twitter account. If you can’t make a background for yourself, there’s dozens of websites that offer high quality backgrounds for free or you can hire a designer to create a custom background.

You should also take the time to personalize your avatar with your own picture or another image which is uniquely you. Next, consider what you will say in your bio space. Your bio must be 160 characters or less. That’s a small amount of text, but you should not use it to randomly keyword stuff. The best Twitter bios use full sentences and weave a few choice keywords into the bio description. For example, if you were tweeting about travel deals to the Caribbean, your bio might read something like, “I’m a world traveler, who enjoys trips to Caribbean hotels. While on vacation I enjoy going to the beach, scuba diving, hiking, and watersports.” Taking the time to make your profile look just right before adding followers will immediately set you apart from the thousands of marketers on Twitter who appear to be spammers.

Now that your Twitter page is personalized, it’s time to start putting Twitter into action. Inexperienced marketers may start plugging their services and products right away, but if you’re interested in becoming a well respected Twitter marketer, you will avoid this mistake. Instead, you should provide several useful and informative tweets that establish you as someone knowledgeable, or at least interested in, the keywords you are promoting.

One of the quickest ways to begin twittering is to create links to interesting blog posts or articles you find in your niche. If possible, provide a short commentary on the link rather than just the link itself. A great tweet will provide an interesting and informative piece of information, while also provoking interaction. Returning to the example of the marketer who promotes Caribbean vacations, a good tweet may read something like: “Scuba in Cozumel is great, but is Bonaire better?” followed by a link to an article about scuba diving in Bonaire. This method is more likely to produce replies or re-tweets than simply posting the link since it asks a question and even adds a little controversy, as different readers will have different takes on which destination is better. This tweet also manages to work in a few keywords.

Cozumel and Bonaire are both Caribbean destinations and scuba is a bio keyword. Google’s Caffeine upgrade is focusing on social media, so it’s more likely than ever that your tweet will appear on Google, thus increasing the need to include keywords and LSI directly into your tweets. Just remember that it’s more important to be clear and informative in your tweets than to have them rank for keywords.

Once you have tweeted a few useful links or messages, you will want to start making an effort to actively recruit followers. Many marketers focus exclusively on the quantity of followers, but this can be somewhat short sighted approach. A small targeted group of followers is far more likely to convert than a massive hodgepodge of followers. That being said, gaining a substantial following is the only way to successfully market on Twitter so it is important that you are proactive in finding them.

If you own a website, blog, or newsletter be sure to mention your Twitter username on them. Followers you gain from this method are the best prospects because they have already shown an interest in whatever products, services, or information you are offering through your Twitter feed. However, it is important to find new prospects on Twitter as well.

Use Twitter to search for other users who have the same interests as you and add them as friends. Some people you add will automatically reciprocate your add, either manually or with software. Others will check out your Twitter page before agreeing to add you. This is why it is so important to build up your tweets and personalize your page before attempting to market yourself to other Twitter users. When users who are weary of spammers go to your Twitter page and notice that you have made an effort to contribute something useful to the Twitter community, they will be much more likely to add you than someone who is just blasting the Twitterverse with their affiliate links and hasn’t even bothered to write an appropriate bio.

As more people follow you, your account will grow organically since people will be re-tweeting your information to their own followers, causing some of them to add you. In addition, some marketers choose to pay for Twitter followers. Paid services can scale up your operation quickly and some Twitter users are more likely to follow accounts which are popular, but it is important to consider the cost-to-value ratio of these services. One final tip to keep in mind: adding too many people at once may flag your account as being spam and Twitter has integrated ways to prevent this behavior into their system.

Once you have established your presence as a trusted and interesting tweeter you can begin promoting your own products or services on a limited basis. Experts have suggested that you should promote your own services about 5% of the time on your own Twitter account. This prevents Twitter users, who have become sensitive to marketers spamming them, from deleting your account. Of course, if you are presenting truly useful information on your blog or website, not just a sales pitch, you can integrate those links into your tweets more frequently.

By following these tips, you will be well on your way to cultivating a Twitter presence that is likely to result in conversions. Good luck and Happy Tweeting! (Source from : Business Insider).
